Meet Koda!
When I moved over to live with my boyfriend, I didn't expect a pet anytime soon. Heck, we both didn't. But fate would have it otherwise. Our little Koda came with us back from our vacation just last month. He's only four months old right now... I guess it's almost five? And, yes. He's not actually quite so little, heh.
He's a pure Great Pyrenees
That means..... he's gonna get pretty big.
He's not quite at the 6Month mark yet, but with the photos in this blog you'll kinda see how big he is already. Yet, he's full of love and care too. BUT- of course- he's a puppy. He's gotten into a lot of things and troubles while he's been with us. A bit harder to house train too, but I'd like to say we're getting there.
Koda is a sweet gentle dog. His good nature comes through honestly. The way to train him has been almost pretty quick. He was taught how to "shake" while we were out on vacation in under a day. But I think it taught him to paw at us more than shake paws with us. Hehe, sometimes he'll paw at me gently when he needs something. He shift easily to be obedient, not in an stiff way. He'll listen while we teach. We've taught him to sit when he's being fed. We've asked him to stay until we put the food down, then he goes to eat. This is for him to not only not jump and beg, but to be patient. It may seem small but it's very sweet.
For his toys, we had ones passed down and ones we've bought him. This one I picked out myself~ I'm pretty happy how much he'll chew at it. Yet, for this one he likes it thrown out first. We try to help him out with fun stuff. But, as a puppy, he does get into trouble for chewing things he's not suppose to. That one will lose with age.. hopefully
For his fur, if you can't tell already, he's a very fluffy guy~ When I saw him as a pup, the first thing I wanted to do is just to pet him!
He's so so so cute~ I loved his white bod and white eyebrows. I grew instantly attached to the unique spot on his head. He has another spot, weirdly enough, on his back randomly. His dear aunt, my sister, said it almost looked like a kid drew it on him with a sharpie. It's just, blop! Right there, on the side of his back hehehee.
When it came to that fur though....
I wasn't sure what to to do- so naturally, research came in.
Turns out he doesn't need many baths at all-- but to be brushed!
Luckily, I had one prepared beforehand. Before we picked him up, we picked up supplies to help him out. Funny enough, my boyfriend bought a brush too! His is actually better than mine; typically I'll use his. The brushing versus bathing him regularly worked out better. It was weird at first... but, it was what was best. His fur is thick and layered to where you have to go part by part to get to the bottom coat. It can be challenging for him to sit still, of course. I've found that starting at his thighs as he's laying works best. I'll get down the back legs, then the back, and then work my way around. The matts had been thought pretty serious when it wasn't. They just need straightening out most of the time. When it's a bit spiky, that needs brushing too. It's just another thing or two I've learned about him.
Taking care of this new pet with new... well, everything... it's kinda changed how I look at dogs now.
Before... I had Buddha!
Buddha was our beloved family dog. Always cuddling and always ready to be by your side. A full shih tzu pure bred. We have don't have photos of him as a puppy, but let me tell you why he was Buddha. Hehe, ya see, when he was a pup his belly was a pot belly. It was big and round like a buddha statue. So he became "Buddha" but he also loved peek-a-boo. Like, loved it! So his full name was "Buddha Boo" He was the type of dog that often hung out nearby. We have a lot of good memories of petting him, I think, the most. We loved him for many years-he departed only two ago.
Along came with him was his "wife" Molly, aka the big momma of many pups. The two of them shared many litters hehe. She was also a pure shih tzu! So many pups and they were very cute! She had passed away at a younger age sadly but she was very much a lap dog.
And, woulda ya know it, my very first dog was a shih tzu too! Sammy was his name. When I had him I was a little toddler and couldn't believe how much fur they had. As you can tell, I've had quite a few of shih tzus by now. Thus, having a new kinda dog seemed fun.
Koda became my new beloved pet more than thought I would have. I'm not sure why, but having a pet as an adult feels different. It's not the typical "I wanna play with him" or "let's always be with each other" kinda child wonder vibe. But for me it's "a new member of the family". Which, could be argued is the same as a child's. I just feel more loving and caring somehow. Could be motherly instinct, but do not call me his mommy please heh. (A few have already)
Koda has to be a swell fun pet that I look forward to growing up. Not just with him, but him! As a puppy of about almost five months now, he's getting bigger and bigger. It's surprising and fast! After all, I'm used to shih tzus. They're a bit different.
And yet, our Koda remains to be a new staple in my life. Thus ends this blog update post on my life as a whole. I'll let you know if there's future blogs of him, heh. Trust me, there's already more photos since starting this one. Love ya you big goof!
